Douglas is a licensed Psychologist. He received his BS in Computer Science from American Sentinel University. Later he completed his first Masters through Capella University in Information Technology. His second Masters was also from Capella University in Counseling Psychology. He finished with his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Walden University.

Douglas received his Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Externship from Dr. Sue Johnson. He later completed his EFT core skills training from Jeff Hickey through the Minnesota Emotionally Focused Community.

Douglas has had a passion to help couples become connected since he was 10 years old. He is dedicated to helping others understand and integrate EFT into their lives so their own families can benefit as his has. He and his wife, Shawnmarie, founded Alaska Marriage & Family Therapy Associates in 2013.

Shawnmarie is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapy Supervisor, and a retired high school teacher. She taught high school health and medical terminology as well as girls conditioning. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a Master’s in Education and also received a Highly Qualified Certification from Emporia University in Kansas. After completing 20 years of teaching she earned her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University.

Shawnmarie has had the honor of receiving her Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Externship from Dr. Sue Johnson, the creator of EFT. She completed her five Core Skills trainings with Dr. Lisa Palmer, and Jim Thomas through the Colorado Center of Emotionally Focused Therapy. She was supervised by Dr. Alison Lee, co-creator of the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Dr. Nancy Aikin to become a certified supervisor in EFT. She was the first Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist and Supervisor in the state of Alaska.  She is a certified Spiritual Director and a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.

Shawnmarie and her husband, Douglas, founded Alaska Marriage & Family Therapy Associates in 2013.

K'hala is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. She earned a BA in Psychology at Northwest Christian University. She graduated from Northcentral University with a Master of Arts in Marital and Family Therapy. She is currently working towards earning the credentials necessary to become licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, so she can provide more services to her clients. 

K'hala completed both the training for Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy created by Dr. Sue Johnson and Emotion Focused Therapy created by Dr. Less Greenberg. She is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and has completed advanced touch training skills for SE table work. 

K'hala has also studied the Enneagram since she was only 10 years old. She has received formal training from Russ Hudson at the Enneagram Institute and is passionate about helping individuals heal by moving up the levels of development. 

K'hala specializes individual therapy for people who have experienced trauma. She uses SE table touch, the Enneagram and EFT to create a unique treatment plan for each person working with her.

Lety has a rich history of working with developmentally delayed children. She spent her first 10 years of employment working in direct care of this population before completing her Master's degree.

Lety has advanced training in using Emotionally Focused Family Therapy with both minor children and their parents as well as adult children and their parents. She specializes in both couples and families who want to have a better connection.

Lety is bilingual in English and Spanish and can conduct treatment in both languages.

Jacqui's love of art and working with people of all ages led her to become a Humanistic Psychotherapist. Her experience includes children age 5 and up, adolescents, adults, and elders. Clients are free to explore art, play and sand tray therapies, as well as talk therapy to work through childhood developmental trauma, depression, anxiety and life transitions. Jacqui was born and raised in Kodiak, Alaska of mixed heritage and is recognized as an Alutiiq Culture Bearer and artist.

Tina is a 20-year Air Force retiree who attended UAA Anchorage for her bachelor’s degree in social work. Tina completed her internship working with high-risk youth who were experiencing homelessness. Tina went on to pursue her master’s degree where she was working with children and families in a child trauma center. Tina also spent time working with Veterans in a behavioral health clinic. Tina joined AKMFT to help people of all ages and walks of life. Tina grew up living in a children’s home and foster care, now she is doing the job she’s dreamed of since she was a teen.
